KORCULA
Korcula is one of the largest of the thousand Croatian islands, on
which there are traces of thousands years old European cultures and
civilizations (Greek, Roman, Illyrian, Croatian, Venetian). The
island’s city with the same name, Korcula, is among the most
beautiful towns on the Croatian coast and is known for its unique
architecture. Korcula is the native town of the famous world traveler
and explorer of the Far East — Marco Polo (1254). His native house
has been preserved in the old city center. The largest settlements on
the island are Korcula, Lumbarda, Vela Luka, Blato, Racisce, Smokvica,
Zrnovo, Pupnat and Cara. Today Korcula is connected with the rest of
Europe and the world by ship and ferry lines, roads and the airports
in Dubrovnik and Split.
