Obonjan - the island of Youth is an island resort. Its facilities and potential are all related to holiday making, recreation,rehabilitation and education of young people.It is not only an island, it is a settlement , a town , an entire little continent which has been "invented" for young people and their free time.
THE ISLAND OF YOUTH ORGANIZES AND OFFERS : spring, summer and autumn holidays for two,four or six people or groups , with accommodation in tents or buildings, campings for school children, scouts and for other associations for a period from 10 to 30 days, educational field trips, foreign language school, sailing , diving, water skiing and windsurfing schools, sport and recreation, health centre,excursions which can be organized to the Kornati islands, the Krka Waterfalls, to the islands of Zlarin, Prvić, Kaprije nd Žirje and to the towns of Šibenik, Vodice, Primošten, Skradin and to numerous other attractive destinations in the area.
THE ISLAND OF YOUTH HAS :
17 pavilions, 2 annexes, 25 camping sites, kindergarten and school, playgrounds and sport grounds, doctor's surgery and a doctor in permanent residence, shop, pub and restaurant, sea -water swimming pool on top of the island, amphitheatre for various performance as well as an entertainment centre, information office and telephone, two piers. Every camping site has a solid facility, a building, housing a kitchen, a covered dining area and sanitary facilities. The island is supplied with power and water.Upto 1000 meals can be prepared in the kitchen,whereas the dining room and the surrounding terraces have a capacity of 500 seats. In front of the restaurant there is an attractive swimming pool with sea water, which is used for fire-fighting, but the pool is both a swimming pool and a summer stage. The sports grounds are situated in the central part of the island( basketball,handball, volley ball, small football, boccia ..), and on its southern slopes there is an amphitheatre which can take upto 1200 visitors.The entire island, as well as all of its facilities are connected by a road, which also makes a good fitness track.Camping sites spread all the way to the shore, and the surrounding area, as is the case with entire island,is an ideal place for field trips, open air games and exercises, as well as for the observation and study of nature.And from the highest island peak, there are magnificent views spread on the distant island of Vis.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE ISLAND :
The island of Youth is located 6 miles from Šibenik, west of the island of Zlarin and south of the island of Prvić.The island is 1800 m long, with an area of 70 hectares. Its highest peak is 62 meters above sea level.It is covered in Mediterranean vegetation and pine trees , and on the island , there are still trucs of olive groves, fig trees and vineyards which used to thrive here.In the south-east bay there is beach with a swimming pool for non-swimmers, diving platform and terraced sunbathing area. But, the entire coast line is in fact a beach with its string of bays, coves, cliffs, rocks and shallow waters.On Obonjan, no matter which wind is blowing, you can always find shelter , peace and quite.The sea is crystal clear and transparent to a depth of upto 20 m.It is separated from the nearest islet called Sestrica vely by a shoal whose maximum depth is 12 m.Obonjan- the island of youth- is a part of the Šibenik Archipelago; the nearest inhabited island is Zlarin,followed by Kaprije and Žirje.It is at intersection of sea routes to these inhabited islands.
